Overview
The management structure of the Council is typical of a small organization,
being sufficient only to ensure the continuation of the Council.
Sponsors provide the bulk of financial support and the main activities
are carried out by voluntary participants on the Executive Committee.
The main criteria for Membership is a genuine interest or involvement
in cryogenics or cryoengineering.

Membership
Anyone with an interest in cryogenics may apply for membership
of the British Cryogenics Council and will be admitted as a member
on payment of an annual subscription of £10.00 (£5.00
for students, the unemployed and persons retired from full-time
work). The benefits of membership are a quarterly newsletter and
access to the Discussion Forum on the website. The level of the
annual subscription is reviewed at the Annual General Meeting.

Corporate Membership
Any company or organisation may apply to become a Corporate Member
of the British Cryogenics Council. They can submit their company
details online to the Council for approval. Acceptance by the Council
is judged on the organisation supplying a product or service in
the United Kingdom which is of benefit to the cryogenic community.
Following approval and payment of an annual fee the details will
be included in the database which can be searched by anyone accessing
the website. The annual fee payable is linked to the number of people
employed by the organisation and is reviewed at the Annual General
Meeting.

Management
The management of the British Cryogenics Council is vested in an
Executive Committee consisting of the Honorary Officers and one
representative from each of the sponsoring organizations. In addition,
the Executive Committee may co-opt as members of the Executive Committee
three further persons who shall be eminent in the field of cryogenics.
The Honorary Officers are:
- Chairman: Harry Jones
- Vice-Chairman: Damian Hampshire
- Secretary: Charles Monroe
- Treasurer: John Vandore
The Chairman, the Honorary Secretary and the Honorary Treasurer
are members of a sponsoring organization. The Honorary Officers
are also ex-officio members of the Executive Committee.
The Annual General Meeting of the British Cryogenics Council is
held during each calendar year. Ordinary Meetings of the Executive
Committee are normally held twice a year or, in emergency, as decided
by the Chairman.
A small committee consisting of the Honorary Officers and the immediately
previous Chairman meets ad hoc to ensure the smooth running of the
Council between meetings of the Executive Committee.
The Executive Committee is assisted by a Secretarial Assistant
who also produces the Quarterly Newsletter, under the direction
of the Secretary.

Activities
The Activities of the Council consist of involvement
in all matters of Cryogenic Engineering. In particular, members
benefit from the following:
- A forum for those engineers working in
Cryogenics to exchange ideas and technical information with the
aim of increasing dialogue between members, especially those from
different disciplines who may not otherwise have an opportunity
to make contact.
- A quarterly newsletter to which all members
and sponsoring institutions are invited to contribute. The newsletter
includes information on safety and environmental issues, new cryogenic
engineering products, a diary of meetings, conferences and courses
together with other topics.
The BCC also involves itself in publishing
specialist material appropriate to cryogenics. Recent publications
include:
- The BCS Cryogenic Data Book
- The BCS Safety Manual
The BCC also holds a database on this
website of organisations supplying services and or products within
the United Kingdom which are relevant to anyone working in the field
of cryogenics.
